Columbia Steppe is a family enterprise, originally conceived as a direct-to-the-consumer outlet for some of our own fresh apples and other premium products representing the agricultural bounty of the Pacific Northwest. Our name is taken from the predominant terrain feature (the ancient shrub-steppe) of the semi-arid lands of our Columbia Plateau region between the Rocky Mountains of Idaho and Montana on the east and the coastal Cascade Range on the west.
While we continue to pursue our primary livelihood as fruit growers (apples, pears, and sweet cherries), in Washington's Yakima Valley, we have set about to expand the scope of Columbia Steppe's offerings to include a varied selection of artisan roasted coffees, teas, gourmet products, plus uncommon gifts and accessories.
In concept and philosophy, our store is not intended to be "everything for everyone". By limiting our selections to a relative few items in each category, we can assure you the best in quality and value. We take the necessary time and great care in researching and choosing products that are truly special and unusual, and we guarantee your satisfaction.
Our Fine Wines section is a good example. We have very few, if any, of the wines you will typically find at your local market. We offer a carefully selected few mid to upper price range wines in each category, generally priced at, or slightly over, "tasting room retail" price. While our wine inventory and wineries represented will expand over time, our offerings will always be truly premium, often limited release Northwest region wines.
